Cotton Flat Road officially reopened after being repaved

The last time Cotton Flat Road was completely repaved was back in 1908.

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — Midland representatives held a press conference and ribbon cutting Thursday morning.

Cotton Flat Road has fully reopened after construction began to repave the road back in August 2019.

Repairing the three and a half mile stretch was about a $4 million investment.

Midland officials had been anticipating the repairs for years, since the quality of the road had degraded significantly due to oilfield traffic.

Travelers had to deal with detours and traffic being down to one lane throughout the construction, but as of October 22 the road is fully reopen.

"The county budgeted last year $50 million to repave a lot of our county roads. $50 million is a lot of money," said Commissioner Luis Sanchez.

"On average Midland County in the last 10 years was using about $3 million dollars a year we went from $3 million to $50 million," said Sanchez.
