Odessa man arrested after striking a person in the head with a baseball bat

Justin McCarty has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

ODESSA, Texas — An Odessa man has been arrested after using a baseball bat against another person. 

According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to a call about a disturbance involving two roommates. The roommates claimed that both had been attacked by each other with one saying he was hit with a baseball bat and then other saying he was stabbed with a knife. 

The Officers spoke with both men involved and heard their sides of the story. The argument was over rent and the roommates got into an altercation. The roommate that was hit in the head with a baseball bat by the suspect, Justin McCarty, said he only grabbed the knife after McCarty hit him in the arm and then later in the head. 

The roommate was at MCH due to swelling, bruising and other injuries. In the end, officers determined McCarty should be charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon due causing serious bodily injury. 

McCarty was arrested and transported to the Ector County Jail. We will continue to update this story as we receive more information. The investigation is still ongoing.
