Odessa College holds Career & Tech Signing Ceremony

"Career technical education and CTE workforce in general has had a a big emphasis that has started to take shape over the last few years," said Dr. Gene White Jr.

ODESSA, Texas — Some Odessa College students took the next step to continue working at their craft Thursday.

The college held a signing ceremony for students in the career and technical trade fields with no more than 15 college credits.

The letters will further their commitment as they're now able to continue their careers in trade training and will be able to move into their desired field.

As more students continue to enter the CTE workforce, Odessa College is excited to grow along with its programs.

"Career technical education and CTE workforce in general has had a a big emphasis that has started to take shape over the last few years and so where traditionally we may have been looking at students who are going into transfer programs, four-year universities, now there's a lot more emphasis put on to, not only those students, but then students who are not maybe wanting to go into a four year route, but to go straight into the workforce," said Dr. Gene White Jr., dean of Odessa College Business School. "So we want to make sure that we're partnering with our industry partners to be able to have them set up for success when they walk into the field instead of having to train on their own."

Thursday's ceremony included students in the automotive and diesel, welding and criminal justice field.
