Trial date currently set for mother of Cordarius

Charlotte Pegues will be having a trial on April 15 for exploitation of a disabled individual, according to Midland District Clerk's Office.

MIDLAND, Texas — A trial date has been currently set for the mother of Cordarius, the nonverbal 'teen' who was found last year.

Forty-seven-year-old Charlotte Pegues was arraigned for exploitation of a disabled individual on Dec. 15, pleading not guilty. She was previously indicted by a grand jury on Nov. 14.

Charlotte Pegues now faces a trial set for April 15, according to the Midland District Clerk's Office, which is subject to change. Her first pretrial will be Jan. 18 and her final pretrial will be Feb. 15.

If you remember, Cordarius was a nonverbal 'teen' who went months without being identified. It was revealed months later that he was a 24-year-old man, according to a lengthy investigation.

After being found in January on an intersection, Cordarius was unable to talk or communicate, making finding his family a challenge.

In August, Cordarius was identified as Cordarius Pegues. His mother, Charlotte Pegues, was arrested and charged with exploitation of a disabled person shortly after.

Police said the living conditions of Charlotte's house was hazardous and unhygienic.

Charlotte Pegues bonded out later that week.

We will continue to follow this trial and keep you updated as we learn more.
