Kent Company partners with Helen Keller Foundation to help those with vision impairment

Vision is often something we take for granted.

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - When driving around Midland and Odessa, Kent Kwik Stores and Kent Lube Centers are not hard to find.

The company has always been heavily involved in giving back to the communities they serve, and on April 18 they announced a new partnership aimed at helping those with vision impairments. The organization they have teamed up with is the Helen Keller Foundation.

The announcement included the launch of a collection campaign for the foundation. Dr. Robert Morris, a world renowned eye surgeon and the president of the foundation, also gave a presentation.

For Kent team member Terry Adkins, the collection is personal. Today he shared his experience with vision trouble as a patient of Dr. Morris.

“What happened was, I showed up to my regular doctor for an eye visit and he said ‘Terry you are losing vision’. Of course I knew I was losing vision, I was there for that reason, and he said ‘You have a cataract, but you don’t have a normal cataract because of the eye trauma that took place when yo you were a child’,” said Adkins.

Adkin’s doctor recommended him to some specialists, and luckily enough Mr. Kent knew Dr. Morris. Kent told Adkins he needed to go see Dr. Morris, and the result was nothing short of life changing

“I was just amazed," Adkins said. “Through two major surgeries, Dr. Morris actually restored the vision in my right [eye], and today the vision in my right eye, the bad eye as you would say, is better than the left eye.”

The company-wide collection will kick off Monday. Team members at Kent locations will ask you during your visit if you’d like to donate to the Helen Keller Foundation, and Adkins says every dollar counts.
