Two dead after Ector County crash from Jan. 24

According to Texas DPS, 79-year-old Louise Ortiz and 83-year-old Jose Ortiz-Hernandez both died in the hospital after lengthy battles.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Two people are dead after a crash in Ector County on Jan. 24, according to Texas DPS.

According to a preliminary crash report, at 1:43 p.m., 23-year-old Nicole Elizabeth Howard was driving northbound on FM 1936. 

Meanwhile, 79-year-old Louise Ortiz was driving her truck westbound on SH 302. Also in Ortiz's truck was 83-year-old Jose Ortiz-Hernandez.

According to the release, Howard failed to yield the right of way at the yield sign at FM 1936 and SH 302. This resulted in a crash with the truck.

Howard was taken to Medical Center Hospital where she had minor injuries.

Both occupants of the truck were taken to the hospital. Jose Ortiz-Hernandez died due to his injuries three days later on Jan. 27 at UMC-Lubbock. Louise Ortiz died due to her injuries on Jan. 31 at MCH-Odessa.
