One person killed in Ector County crash

Texas DPS says a Midland man disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of FM 554 and East Cottonwood Rd.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — One man is dead and another one is injured following a crash that happened early morning on Feb. 3 in Ector County.

47-year-old Michael Vernon Johnson of Midland was driving eastbound on East Cottonwood Rd in a full-size truck. Meanwhile, 31 year-old Abraham Adrian Vargas was driving northbound on FM 554.

According to Texas DPS, Johnson is suspected of running a stop sign at the intersection, crashing into Vargas. The 31 year-old victim was transported to Medical Center Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Johnson was hospitalized with minor injuries. 

The investigation remains ongoing according to officials and NewsWest 9 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
