High winds and dust cause four separate crashes on FM 1555 with 12 vehicles involved

Four separate crashes occurred on FM 1555 in less than a one mile stretch with 12 vehicles involved.

ODESSA, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a press release on the information that led to the multi-vehicle crash on FM 1555 near SH 349 on April 1. 

Upon investigation, four separate crashes occurred on FM 1555 in less than a one mile stretch with 12 vehicles involved.

The crashed occurred because of limited visibility due to high winds and blowing dust.

All injuries were reported as minor and non-life threatening.  Those who were injured were treated at hospitals in the local area.

FM 1555 was closed, and the traffic was rerouted during the incident.

The roadway has been cleared and reopened at 8 p.m. Monday.

At this time, the total number of people injured is unknown and remains under investigation.

This incident is still under investigation, and there is no further information available at this time.

As a reminder from DPS, motorists should never stop or park in the traffic lane when visibility is limited due to the weather. Motorists should pull entirely off the roadway into the barrow ditch and activate hazard lights.
