Monahans police searching for suspect who threatened man with a gun

In a Facebook post the department encouraged people to avoid a stretch of S. Gary.

MONAHANS, Texas — The Monahans Police Department responded to a barricaded subject Friday afternoon.

A Facebook post from the department asked citizens to stay away from the 900 to 1100 blocks of S. Gary.

The Monahans Police Chief William Riley tells us a man came to the address after purchasing a gun on Facebook. He then made arrangements to pick up the gun.

When the man got to the house, the seller answered the door and pointed a gun to the buyer's face, threatening to kill him and any other person who came to the house.

The buyer was able to get away and immediately called the police, which started the standoff.

Monahans police responded with the Pecos SWAT team assisting.

Upon arrival, the police thought the seller was still inside but after being unable to make contact they found the house was vacant.

Police are now working to identify the man so they can issue an arrest warrant.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
