5-year-old donates over 100 toys to local toy drive

Harper Grimes and her parents gave away the toys to Mission Agape's toy drive.

MIDLAND, Texas — The holiday season is all about giving and being together with family.

It is also a time for many to donate to various toy drives across the city.

One young Midlander has gone above and beyond to donate to a local toy drive to make sure families in Midland have something to put under their tree.

Five-year-old Harper Grimes, with the help of her parents and neighbors, raised over $1,000 and was able to donate just over 100 toys to the Mission Agape toy drive.

It isn't the first year that Harper and her parents have donated to this magnitude.

“It just kind of snowballed and this is her third year," Rian Grimes, Harper's mother, said. "She raised $1,030 to shop for toys and we have a lot of friends in the community who dropped of toys for her at the porch. We estimate that we have up to 105 toys to donate to at Mission Agape."

Some of the toys were picked up at local stores around Midland while others were purchased at major stores like Target.

After they boxed up all of the toys at their house, they loaded up the toys in their cars and drove them to Mission Agape to drop them off.

Mission Agape is looking to help 800 to 900 families this season and a donation of over 100 toys will certainly help.

They plan on getting those families not just toys, but other valuable items like stocking stuffers and sweaters.

Such dedication deserves a reward and Mission Agape - so impressed with what Harper did - bestowed upon her a certificate appreciating her work.

“It’s just thanking her for all of her hard work and her heart to be out there and be a voice for other children just around her age and older that let’s [them] be sure we are helping others,” Stacy Baccus, the founder and executive director of Mission Agape, said.

If you ask Harper how she feels about what she has done and who she’s going to help, it’s pretty easy to tell that she’s happy about it.

"Yes, I am very excited," Harper said. "I think all of the kids are really going to love all of this so."

This goes to show that anybody, no matter how young or old they are and no matter how tall or small they may be, is capable of showing a little Christmas spirit and give a little bit for those in need.
