Two people die in head-on collision at the intersection of State Highway 349 and Craddick

According to the Midland Police Department, a dump truck failed to yield the right of way to a Ford F-350 traveling southbound on SH 349, causing a fatal collision.

MIDLAND, Texas — Two people in a Ford F-350 have died in a head-on collision at the intersection of State Highway 349 and Craddick Highway in Midland on Monday afternoon, according to the Midland Police Department.

The fatal collision happened at around 4:15 p.m.

According to MPD, a dump truck at the intersection of Tom Craddick Highway and SH 349 failed to yield the right of way to a Ford F-350 traveling southbound on SH 349.

Two people in the Ford F-350, 32-year-old Richard Vela and 39-year-old Felipe Avila from Odessa, died at the scene.

A third person in the Ford was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the truck-tractor was released at the scene because the driver was not injured.

According to the City of Midland, crews are at the scene cleaning up a fuel spill and remnants from the collision.

The eastbound portion of Craddick Highway is shut down from Holiday Hill to State Highway 349. Only one lane of northbound SH 349 is open. People driving on southbound SH 349 are being rerouted to westbound Craddick Highway.
