DPS identifies man killed in head-on collision on I-20

Troopers say the freightliner lost control and crossed the median, striking the SUV head-on.

MIDLAND, Texas —

The Texas Department of Public Safety investigating a deadly crash at I-20 and S County Road 1150.

The wreck happened around 4 p.m. and left one person dead.

According to DPS, a freightliner was traveling east on I-20. At the same time, an SUV and a truck tractor were traveling west on the same road.

Jesus Castanon, 32, was driving the freightliner when he lost control of the vehicle and veered across the center median into the westbound lanes. 

The freightliner collided head-on with the SUV, which was being driven by Granvil Odin, 82, of Lovington, New Mexico.

The driver of the truck tractor managed to avoid the freightliner, though the vehicle was struck by debris. He was not injured.

Odin was pronounced dead at the scene. Gertrudis was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

At this time no further information is available and the investigation is still ongoing.
