UTPB Women's Basketball heading to national tournament for first time in program history

The Lady Falcons earned a berth in the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship tournament.

ODESSA, Texas — The women's basketball team at The University of Texas Permian Basin has made the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament for the first time in program history, finding out on Sunday night during the national DII selection show.

The Lady Falcons entered this past week as the third seed in the Lone Star Conference championship tournament and beat Angelo State in the first round on Friday. A close win on Saturday against UT Tyler put UTPB in the championship game. The Falcons lost 70-60 on Sunday afternoon against Texas Woman's University. However, the previous two wins, combined with a very strong regular season, had UTPB in good position to make the national tournament.

The best season in program history will continue under the direction of Head Coach Rae Booth, as UTPB went 24-7 overall with a 17-5 mark in the LSC. It's the most wins in a campaign in team history.

UT Permian Basin is a four seed in the tourney's South Central Region and will face fifth-seeded Adams State in the first round on Friday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m., according to NCAA.com. That game will be played at Pioneer Hall and Kitty Magee arena. If the Lady Falcons were to win, it would set up a potential rematch against Texas Woman's in the second round, if the host team defeats Colorado School of Mines.
