Two Ector County candidates get into altercation at Ector County Annex, OPD says

On Thursday, OPD officers were called to the Ector County Annex Building due to a disturbance. The two people involved were Carmen Wilhite and Donna Kelm.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — The Odessa Police Department tells NewsWest 9 that two Ector County candidates got into a physical altercation at the Ector County Annex Building.

According to a media release, at 12:06 p.m., officers responded to the Ector County Annex Building because of a reported disturbance. 

The two people involved were Carmen Wilhite and Donna Kelm. Wilhite is running for the Ector County Precinct 203 Chair and Kelm is running for the Ector County Chair, according to an Ector County sample ballot.

When OPD arrived, each person claimed to be a victim of an assault and both were then separated.

Other officials tell NewsWest 9 that there were accusations of hair pulling.

The Ector County Republican Party released a statement in response to the reported assault. The statement is shown below.

There will be a press conference at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Ector County Commissioners Courtroom to address the atmosphere of the politics in Ector County.

The investigation is ongoing.
