Three-vehicle crash leaves one man and 44 cattle dead

28-year-old Edward Scott Abendroth was pronounced dead at the scene, while a separate truck with 120 cattle rolled over, causing 44 of the cattle to die.

GLASSCOCK COUNTY, Texas — A Midland man has died in a three-vehicle crash in Glasscock County Friday morning.

According to a preliminary crash report from Texas DPS, 28-year-old Edward Scott Abendroth Jr. was driving his truck with a towed trailer eastbound on SH 158.

Another truck with a towed trailer driven by 26-year-old Claudio Esteban Barranco was driving directly in front of Abendroth when Abendroth failed to control his speed and hit the trailer of Barranco from the back.

Another truck with a towed trailer driven by 34-year-old Casey Seay O'Connell was driving westbound on SH 158. O'Connell was hit by debris from the prior crash. The collision caused O'Connell to lose control, causing his truck and trailer to both skid and rollover.

O'Connell's trailer was a cattle hauler, loaded with about 120 cattle, 44 of them dying at the scene.

Abendroth was also pronounced dead at the scene.
