PECOS COUNTY, Texas — A man has died after fleeing a traffic stop Tuesday night, according to Texas DPS.
According to a preliminary crash report, a Pecos County Sheriff's Deputy tried to stop 32-year-old Mark Anthony Lopez Jr. for a traffic stop in Sheffield, TX.
Lopez pulled over initially before driving away westbound on IH-10.
At about mile marker 320, Lopez tried to turn around in the center median.
Meanwhile, 56-year-old Octavio Morales was driving a semi-truck with trailer eastbound on IH-10.
Morales tried to avoid Lopez by braking before crossing the shoulder and into the south barrow ditch. However, Lopez hit Morales, and Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene. Morales was taken to Iraan Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
