According to OPD, officers started firing their weapons to stop an assailant that was trying to run them over.

ODESSA, Texas — UTPB has released a statement regarding the Wagner Noel incident Friday night.

According to the UTPB Police Department, the individual tried to enter the event center, but did not have a ticket to attend the event, so was asked to leave. About an hour later, police saw him near the engineering building. When they approached him, he ran away.

At about 10 p.m., officers noticed a front-end loader tractor driving through the parking lot. According to Odessa Police, he began attempting to run over officers and citizens.

Once officers arrived at SH 191, the suspect turned the heavy equipment and intentionally rammed an OPD police car and a UTPB unit.

Odessa Police said officers from both OPD and UTPB fired their weapons to stop the suspect.

The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds, officers administered first-aid and the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to UTPB.

According to Odessa Police, he was in stable condition as of about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. We are not sure his status at the moment, but we are working on getting that information.

No officers were injured during the incident.
