Major Accident Near Jal, New Mexico Sends Seven to the Hospital

JAL, NM - New information is coming in to the NewsWest 9 Newsroom after a bad crash near Jal that caused 5 oilfield workers to be thrown from their truck.

Jal Police tells NewsWest 9, an 18-wheeler slammed into a truck that was pulling out of a Town and Country store on Highway 118.

The truck was carrying six oil field workers.

According to witnesses, the impact knocked the truck 15 feet in the air.

Five of the workers were thrown from the truck, and the driver was the only one wearing a seat belt.

Rescue personnel had to cut him from the cab.

Everyone went to the hospital including the semi driver who suffered chest injuries from slamming into the steering wheel.

One person was flown to Odessa by CareStar, one was taken to Hobbs, and the rest were transported to Kermit.

There is still no word on their conditions.
