Midland County Sheriff's Office searching for a suspect on the run

More than a dozen law enforcement officers were on scene investigating on March 13.

MIDLAND, Texas — Officials investigating the matter have told NewsWest 9 that officers were chasing a suspect who had multiple warrants. However, they don't know if the suspect is armed but they are assuming the suspect is.

We're also told the suspect led law enforcement on a vehicle chase, which later turned into a foot chase. The suspect is still at-large.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office is on the scene to search for the murder suspect. The Ector County Sheriff's Office was on scene helping MCSO, but, as of 3:18 p.m., Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis tells NewsWest 9 that ECSO was advised to leave. The Texas Department of Public Safety also was on scene to assist MCSO, but, as of 5:11 p.m., DPS is no longer assisting in the search, according to DPS Sergeant Steven Blanco.

We're told there are drones, and SWAT in the area of Business 20 and W. Industrial Avenue in Midland. The area is across the flightline from the Midland International Air and Space Port Wednesday morning.

NewsWest 9 has a crew on scene to investigate. When asked if there is a threat to the public, deputies told our team that they "did not know."

Drivers are asked to avoid the area on W. Industrial Avenue.
