Hobbs man dies in Gaines County crash

GAINES COUNTY, Texas — A Hobbs man has died after a major crash at the intersection of US 62 and CR 109 on Wednesday night at 10:21 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to a preliminary report, 23-year-old Ever Montes, driving a Dodge Ram 1500, was going northeast on US 62. Forty-nine-year-old Eric Leuvano, driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, was going southwest on US 62.

Montes was attempting to turn north onto CR 109, but failed to yield the right of way at an open intersection. That is when Leuvano crashed into Montes.

Leuvano was taken to UMC Hospital in Lubbock where he later died. According to DPS, Montes was taken to Yoakum County Hospital with minor injuries.

DPS is still investigating this crash.
