Odessa DJ and his family among four killed in Ector County crash

The preliminary investigation stated that the Dodge Ram was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of 42nd St., on the wrong side of the road.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — On April 20, at 2:45 p.m., an Odessa DJ and three others died in a head-on crash at the intersection of 42nd St. and FM 1936 in Ector County, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

Two vehicles were involved: a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. 

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 19-year-old Leo Sandoval, was going westbound in the eastbound lane of 42nd St., on the wrong side of the road, according to Texas DPS. 

The driver of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, 46-year-old Hector Manuel Martinez-Olivas, a popular DJ from Odessa, was going eastbound on 42nd St. There were two passengers in the Silverado: 45-year-old Norma Estela Marquez-Gonzales and a 14-year-old boy whose name was not released.

According to DPS' preliminary report, Sandoval struck Martinez-Olivas' truck head-on. The crash caused all involved to die.

According to the City of Odessa, Martinez-Olivas' family was in the truck during the head-on crash. They were pronounced dead by an Ector County Medical Examiner.

Sandoval was transported to Medical Center Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

This crash is still under investigation, and no further information was provided.
