ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety says two people have died due to a crash that took place in Ector County on Wednesday night.

DPS' preliminary information revealed that 35-year-old Rene Cardona Jr., driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, was going eastbound on IH-20 service road near mile marker 106.

Luis Flores, 69, driving a 2020 Hino truck with 52-year-old Passenger Angelina Romero, was heading westbound on IH-20 near mile marker 106 in the outside lane.

DPS says Cardena lost control and crossed over the eastbound IH-20 and entered westbound IH-20.

Then, Cardena and Flores collided outside the westbound lane of IH-20.

All three of them were transported to Medical Center Hospital, but Cardena and Romero succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Flores is in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation and NewsWest 9 will update this story once more information is provided.
