Arrests made in San Angelo child death investigation

Two people were arrested in connection to a child's death in January.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two people were arrested in Abilene as a result of an investigation into a child's death in January. 

On Jan. 18, 2024, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Vaughn Street for the report of an unconscious child.

When officers arrived, they located the unresponsive three-year-old male and administered lifesaving measures while transporting the child to Shannon Medical Center for treatment.

The child was not able to be revived and later was pronounced dead, according to an SAPD press release.

Detectives with the department's Crimes Against Children Unit responded and learned the child subjected to neglect and failure to provide adequate care and nourishment to the child.

Abilene police made two arrests in connection to the death.

Mark Anthony Nieves, 32, is charged with first degree felony injury to a child by omission with serious bodily injury; third degree felony injury to a child with bodily injury; third degree felony assault on a pregnant person;  and State Jail felony endangering a child x2.

Syhtel Lee Limuel, 29, is charged with first degree felony injury to a child with serious bodily injury; first degree aggravated kidnapping; State Jail felony endangering a child x2.
