Abell Junior High coach let go after banquet incident

According to the district, Derek Doss was the coach involved in the incident. According to jail records, Doss was arrested for public intoxication Wednesday night.

MIDLAND, Texas — According to a statement from Midland ISD, a coach is no longer employed at Abell Junior High School after an incident at an end-of-year sports banquet Wednesday night.

The statement reads: MISD Athletics and the District would like to offer sincerest apologies to families and athletes who were in attendance during the Abell Junior High end-of-year sports banquet. While this is a personnel matter that is under investigation, we can share that the individual is no longer an employee of the district. School administrators, coaches, and district staff will be supporting students to ensure a seamless learning experience and end to the athletics season.

According to the school district, the employee is Boys Athletic Coach Derek Doss. According to jail records, someone by the name of Derek Doss was arrested for public intoxication Wednesday night at the Bush Convention Center.

According to jail records, Doss is no longer in custody.
