33-year-old Odessan dies in West Odessa crash on Tuesday

Bellanira Contreras failed to yield the right of way and turned left in front of a 2023 Ford F-250, causing a collision. Contreras died at the scene of the crash.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — A 33-year-old woman died in a crash in West Odessa after failing to yield the right of way and turning left in front of a Ford F-250, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened on Tuesday at 5:43 p.m. at the intersection of West University Blvd. and Westcliff Rd.

According to DPS' preliminary report, 33-year-old Bellanira Contreras, driving a 2021 Dodge Challenger, was going westbound on University and was approaching the University and Westcliff intersection. 60-year-old Baldemar Aguilar, driving a 2023 Ford F-250, was going eastbound on University and was approaching the intersection of University and Westcliff.

As Aguilar was approaching the intersection, Contreras failed to yield the right of way and turned left in front of Aguilar, causing a collision.

DPS says Contreras died at the scene of the crash. Aguilar was not injured.
