15th Annual Share Walk at the Midland Horseshoe

Originally meant to take place at Astound Stadium, it was moved because of the weather.

MIDLAND, Texas — The 15th Annual Share Walk happened today at the midland county horseshoe.

“So, we want the community to know that special needs doesn't only affect the child, it affects the whole family. And here at Share, we want to celebrate the whole family and we want the community to accept them,” said Traci Hopper, executive director at SHARE.

Accepting them includes understanding why these families sometimes don’t get out much.

"So, families that raise children with special needs, a lot of time they have behavior issues or they're just uncomfortable being out because sensory or noises. And so, this is a great time for them to come together and we make it sensory friendly to them," Hopper continued.

These families sometimes feel the need to isolate themselves and Share wants them to know that they don’t have to.

“A lot of our families also isolate themselves and this gets them out. As you see, we have tons of people out here just to meet each other, see each other. We need that support so that the families know they're not alone in their walk through their journey,” Hopper added.

There were different activities for the children to enjoy and food, as well as contests and prizes.

The Share Walk also acted as a resource fair for all the families that came...various organizations came out to show the families what resources are available to them in the Permian Basin.
