Second graders tour Midland County Courthouse

"As a child of MISD for 12 years, I remember going to the old courthouse and remember how fun it was to meet the judges," said Judge Jeff Robnett.

MIDLAND, Texas — Midland County is helping students grow young minds to understand government. On Tuesday, second graders with Fannin Elementary went on a field trip to the Midland County Courthouse.

The students were able to learn about the court system and how a courthouse is like.

Law enforcement, including Midland County Sheriff David Criner and Midland Police Chief Seth Herman, were there to explain their role in the system.

Sheriff Criner and Chief Herman also taught the students how courtrooms are places you don't want to end up in when you're an adult.

"As a child of MISD for 12 years, I remember going to the old courthouse and remember how fun it was to meet the judges. It gives me good understanding of their life which is government," said Jeff Robnett, the 441st District Court judge.

"I think it's a positive outlook on students. We have a lot of families who are first responders who work in this building. It's important for them to be proud of that," said Lisa Cisneros, principal of Fannin Elementary.

The 441st District Court told NewsWest 9 that having tours like these are a part of community outreach.
