Chinese immigrants in Midland graduate from ESL classes

The immigrants completed an eight-week English class through Burlington English.

MIDLAND, Texas — A church group in Midland helped immigrants from China settle down in the Tall City.

The immigrants completed an eight-week English class through Burlington English to help them ease into the community.

Many of these immigrants attend the Mayflower Church, which is made up of those who fled China due to religious persecution.

"They are new to America and Texas. They are so eager to learn, they want to assimilate and get jobs and just be part of the community and this is the way we're going to get started with them. To get them confidence to move forward," said Daria McCray, an ESL teacher.

The classes were put together by the Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin and China Aid, a group dedicated to religious freedom in China.
