Pecos Police Officers have been put on restrictive duty after a fatal officer-involved shooting, Texas Rangers take over the case

The Pecos Police Department made contact with suspect 37-year-old Adam Ybarra Sunday night and it resulted in his death. Texas Rangers now work the case.

PECOS, Texas — The Chief of Police at the Pecos Police Department tells NewsWest 9 that an officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday night.

According to Chief of Police Lisa Tarango, Pecos PD received a call on Nov. 26 at 7:15 p.m. in regards to an ongoing domestic violence issue in the 1800 block of W. Jackson St.

When officers arrived, they made contact with suspect 37-year-old Adam Ybarra and an unknown altercation resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

Texas DPS confirmed to NewsWest 9 that Ybarra died as a result of the altercation.

One Pecos Police Officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the shooting.

Chief Tarango says the Pecos Police Officers involved have been put on restrictive duty pending further investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Texas Rangers are taking over the case and the investigation is ongoing.
