Hit-and-run suspect, who has been charged with accident causing death of 10 year old, is being held by ICE

Midland County Sheriff David Criner said 50-year-old Rogelio Ortiz, who was charged with accident causing death, has been deported five separate times.

MIDLAND, Texas — Midland County Sheriff David Criner confirms to NewsWest 9 that 50-year-old Rogelio Ortiz, who was charged with accident causing death of a 10-year-old IDEA Travis student, is currently held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Ortiz was suspected of being involved in the hit-and-run accident in the 1900 block of South Lamesa Rd. on Thursday.

A Midland Police Department officer later arrested Ortiz in the 1800 block of Fairgrounds Rd.

According to Sheriff Criner, Ortiz has been deported five separate times.
