A new type of scam is spreading around West Texas

If you receive a call about jury service, don't provide any of the requested information and quickly notify the U.S. District Clerk’s Office.

ODESSA, Texas — A new kind of scam is currently taking place right here in West Texas.

The Western District of Texas has recently published an article on their website informing residents of phone scammers trying to con potential victims from a different angle.

The scammers will pose as U.S. marshals, court officers and various law enforcement officials and try to collect money from potential victims by informing them that they can avoid jail time with this payment due to their failure to report for jury duty.

If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any of the requested information, hang up the phone and then quickly notify the U.S. District Clerk’s Office of the U.S. District Court in the area that you are residing in.

Notifying the local law enforcement office and the Federal Trade Commission is encouraged as well.

Please share this information to help prevent any more scams from taking place.
