COM Aquatics executive director set to retire at the end of 2024

Brad Swendig, the executive director for the past 40 years, started working for COM Aquatics as the head coach of the COM Swim Team.

MIDLAND, Texas — Brad Swendig, the COM Aquatics executive director for the past 40 years, is set to retire at the end of 2024, Swendig announced in a media release on Tuesday.

Swendig started his career at COM Aquatics in 1984 as the head coach of the COM Swim Team. Then, he was swiftly given the title of executive director.

"During his tenure, the organization has grown from less than 50 members to over 2,500. Additionally, the facility has grown from a 25-yard competitive pool and learn-to-swim pool to one of the top aquatic facilities in the country with 7 pools and a physical therapy center. The COM Swim Team recently was recognized as a USA Swimming Bronze Medal Club by distinguishing itself among the top teams in the country, the COM dive team recently won a national team championship, and the facility has been recognized by the United States Aquatics Fitness Association as the top aquatic exercise facility in the United States. The COM adult fitness program and physical therapy programs are widely recognized as being among the best in Midland and in the state of Texas. Additionally, COM’s learn-to-swim program teaches thousands of lessons every year.

The COM Board of Directors has established a committee to select the new Executive Director, and the committee has teamed up with Dini Spheris, an executive recruiting company from Houston. The established target dates are October 1 and December 31 as the hiring of the new director and final date of the existing director, respectively.
