The J.F. Maddox Foundation is funding 350K to the Lovington Youth Center for Renovation

LOVINGTON, N.M. — The City of Lovington had applied for a grant in February to support facility improvements and summer programs for the Lovington Youth Center, according to the City of Lovington.

Recently, the J.F. Maddox Foundation of Hobbs, New Mexico will be providing a $350,000 funding grant to the City of Lovington.

The Lovington Youth Center has only been hosting special events since COVID and has not offered youth activities during that time. It has been the intent for the city to reopen the center for summer and after-school youth activities.

The anticipated work for the Youth Center includes:

  • New insulation and lighting for the gym
  • HVAC upgrades
  • Plumbing repairs
  • Fire suppression system
  • Security cameras
  • Security system
  • Kitchen upgrades
  • Wi-Fi and I.T. upgrades
  • Wall and ceiling repair
  • (15) Desktop computers

The City of Lovington hopes to offer the following activities at the Youth Center:

  • Access to educational resources and materials
  • Reading area where children can relax in a quiet area and read books
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Outdoor games
  • Dodgeball
  • Foosball tables, 4 square, hopscotch
  • Arts and crafts workshops
  • Dance, music
  • PlayStation games, X-Box games, educational and fitness games
  • Cultural celebrations
  • Provision of nutritious snacks
  • Adequate and proper staffing is also part of this project

The Maddox Foundation continues to demonstrate that they truly have a vested interest in the future of Lovington through the funding of meaningful projects which benefit our community,” said David Miranda, City Manager.
