CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More Americans than ever claim to be happy at work but are they really? And if so, what's behind the record spike?
New survey data from the Conference Board found that 62.7% of Americans are satisfied at work. That's the highest rating on record, but it depends on how you ask. Let's connect the dots.
Nearly 65% of men say they're happy with their jobs. That's compared to 60% of women. The largest satisfaction gap between men and women appears to depend on financial benefits, including pay, benefits and bonuses.
But researchers say money doesn't carry the same weight that it used to. A year ago, wages were the primary indicator of overall job satisfaction. Now, workers say culture is the most important thing.
As for who's actually the happiest at work, 65.5% of hybrid workers reported overall job satisfaction. That's compared to 64.1% of fully remote employees with full-time office workers coming in at 60.2%.
It appears that women who are in the office full-time are feeling the least satisfaction of any group. Experts believe that's due to a drop in work-life balance along with more exposure to gender hierarchies in the office.
