EUNICE, N.M.- A fire started inside a compressor station at a Versado Gas Processors plant operated by Targa Midstream Services on Main Street in Eunice.

"About 11:30 or so we were sitting in city hall, and we felt a mild explosion, and then fire departments alarms went off," said Eunice Mayor Matt White, of the blast, "The first thing we did when we got on site is setup a perimeter, and started moving people out. We evacuated about four blocks around the site. There was a small church, and a small school there, we evacuated those as quickly as we could."

Three employees inside the plant also got out safely. No one was injured.

"It was loud, I really thought the guys in the back of the yard had dropped something," said Melissa Holland who lives in Eunice.

In a town of less than three thousand, the fire hit a little too close to home.

"My step dad works in there, but I didn't believe it, I got worried I called my mom you know," said Carlos Conner who lives a block away from the plant.

"Anytime you have plants, and pipe lines in town, it kind of scares you," said Holland.
