ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Getting a traffic ticket in Odessa will soon be more efficient.

On Tuesday, the City Council approved the police department to convert to an electronic ticket system. The new system will allow officers to scan registration and IDs to process and digitally record information at a faster rate.

Officials said this will not only allow drivers to get back on the road quicker, it will also benefit officers.

"This is gonna speed up the process tremendously and like you said, the officer, its also going to make them more readily available to handle other calls and to be available for those other calls," said Cpl. Steve LeSuer.

There's no roll-out date for the new e-ticket system, but it will be in place by the end of the year.

The system will cost the department more than $210,000 to implement.
