"Pink the Basin" Luncheon Held in Odessa

“Pink The Basin” kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a luncheon.  The 9th Annual “Pink The Basin” celebration luncheon honored the survivors of breast cancer.

ODESSA, TX (KWES)

“Pink The Basin” kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a luncheon.

The 9th Annual “Pink The Basin” celebration luncheon honored the survivors of breast cancer.

The money raised at the event will be used to underwrite vouchers for free mammograms.

We're told only one in five women in Midland and Odessa between the ages of 40 and 49 go in for their annual checkups and events like this one aim to make it so more women can get a breast screening.

"Women have various different reasons why they haven't gotten a mammogram. Maybe they're afraid, or cost is an issue, but Pink the Basin is really working hard to take those barriers away," said Jaqui Gore, Board Member with “Pink the Basin.”

Hospitals participating in the free vouchers include Medical Center Hospital, Odessa Regional Medical Center, Midland Memorial, Permian Regional Hospital in Andrews and the Reeves County Hospital District in Pecos.
