MIDLAND, Texas — An exciting day for the city of Midland Wednesday as the Midland Athletic Syndicate broke ground on the Diamondback Energy Athletic Complex.
The project started a little over a year and a half ago.
It was just an idea and a dream between Midland dads who were basically traveling out of town every weekend and seeing the same Midland teams.
Midland has a shortage of gym space for sports.
However, with the new complex, there will be a lot of room for the kids and it will benefit the youth in the Midland community.
"So this is something that's going to fill the need of our kids and our youth in this community," said John Scharbauer, the director of Midland Athletic Syndicate. "We're going to have basketball, we're have volleyball, soccer, but that doesn't limit us. There's there's room in this place. We're talking 115,000 square feet, over 100,000 foot of floor that gymnastics, dance, band; there's there's a lot of things that can go on in here and it's located couldn't be in a better spot."
