New charges for a California man in connection with the death of a five-year-old Odessa boy who died back on July 4th.
24-year-old Juan Hernandez Nunez has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment.
Authorities say Nunez was playing on the beach with his girlfriend's son, five-year-old Jesse Alvarez when it happened.
Investigators say the boy stopped breathing when Nunez put sand in his face.
This is not Nunez first run in with the law.
Back in 2003, he served 16 months in prison on a meth conviction.
Nunez remains in jail on one million dollar bond.
