ODESSA – Odessa High School was evacuated on Wednesday morning following a gas leak.

ECISD officials tell NewsWest 9, the evacuation began around 10:30 a.m. when construction crews hit a gas line.

Students that were in building on the southeast end of campus were evacuated into the main building, however, Odessa Fire/Rescue officials made the recommendation that the entire campus be evacuated.

The decision was made to cancel class for the day after it was made apparent that the gas leak couldn't be fixed quickly.

Parents were able to pick up their students at 10th & Whitaker shortly after the evacuation and any students that weren't picked up were bussed to Bowie Junior High, where they could have lunch and wait to be picked up by a parent.

A total of eight people, four teachers and four students, were taken to the hospital for nausea and headaches due to the leak and all have been released.

We're told that Odessa High School will have class on Thursday morning and will operate on a normal schedule.
