Identity of Census Workers Killed in Midland County Accident Released

MIDLAND COUNTY - New details on a wreck that killed two census workers in Midland County on Friday.

DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, 67-year-old Merlyn Millsap and 31-year-old Sara Pierce died when they crashed into a semi at the intersection of Highway 158 and FM 1788 around noon.

Troopers say Millsap, who's from Levelland was driving, and never stopped at the stop sign at that intersection.

That's when the tanker hit their truck.

Pierce, who's from Brownfield, died at the scene.

Millsap died later at Midland Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the semi is listed in stable condition at Midland Memorial.

On Friday afternoon around 2:00p.m., the Census Bureau was notified of the accident.

We're told census workers have recovered that census material from the scene.
