Upton County Deputy Shot and Killed in McCamey, Identity of Suspect Released

MCCAMEY - Upton County Sheriff Dan Brown confirms to NewsWest 9 that 38-year-old Deputy Billy (Bubba) Kennedy was shot and killed in the line of duty.

The incident took place at Stripes Convenience Store in McCamey. Deputy Kennedy encountered a male subject and multiple shots were fired.

The suspect, who is identified Gary David Green, is recovering from gunshot wounds at the hospital.

We're told that Green has a long wrap sheet for drugs and fighting and he's no stranger to prison. In fact, he was out on parole when the shooting happened.

According to court records, he's known as the "Pink Panther" Green.

He's been arrested several times in the past for aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and DWI.

In 2001, Green was behind bars in the Huntsville Prison in Southeast Texas.
