Man dies after truck becomes engulfed in flames in Ector County

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — On Friday afternoon, a Midland man died in a car fire in Ector County.

According to a Texas DPS crash report, 48-year-old Gerardo Beltran was driving his Chevrolet Silverado westbound on IH-20 at the 101-mile-marker.

Beltran failed to maintain a single lane and veered off the road, hitting the center median guardrail. Beltran's car broke through the guardrail and continued westbound in the center median.

Beltran then vaulted from a ledge down into the drainage area between the east and westbound lanes.

The vehicle caught on fire and became engulfed in flames. Beltran couldn't exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
