Texas Rangers investigating officer involved shooting at Loop 250, Hwy. 80

According to the Department of Public Transportation, the Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting at Loop 250 and Highway 80 Tuesday afternoon.

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

An investigation continues after an officer-involved shooting left a man dead in Midland County, near Business 20 and North County Road 1120.

We’re told a call first went into the sheriff’s office reporting a man was walking the roadway in the Eastbound traffic and had been struck by a mirror on a car. The man was up and getting on the railroad track, they said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, he also appeared to be cutting himself with something while walking in the middle of the railroad track.

That’s when a deputy arrived at the scene and after attempting to talk to the man and having no luck, he used a taser twice.

The man, not phased by the taser, then turned around and lunged at the deputy with a broken bottle. The deputy then fired two rounds and the man fell on the tracks.

Meanwhile, a train was heading eastbound so the deputy went to pull him off the tracks. That’s when he discovered the man was dead.

He has been identified as Jerald Wilson, 33.

The deputy will be placed on administrative leave for an undetermined amount of time while the Texas Rangers continue the investigation.
