New ordinance seeks to lighten the load of Midland Animal Services

As the population increases in Midland, so does the number of dogs running the streets. Animal services with the city are short-staffed due to the boom and having a hard time dealing with the high volume of calls.

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - As the population increases in Midland, so does the number of dogs running the streets. Animal services with the city are short-staffed due to the boom and having a hard time dealing with the high volume of calls.

A new ordinance would allow other officials to issue tickets for loose and dangerous dogs. “We wanted to take some of that load off of that one or two people that can go out there and work this ordinance and open the door to get more personnel, the police, who can issue these citations and control this issue," said Midland Mayor Jerry Morales.

The city council will be reviewing the issue again in 90-days to see if the added assistance with animal services has helped.
