Bidding process for Pantex Plant contract reopened

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - The bidding process for the contract to oversee the Pantex Plant in Amarillo has been reopened.

The National Nuclear Security Administration says they had initially awarded a $22 billion contract to a group of contractors headed by Bechtel National and Lockheed Martin to run the Y-12 complex in Tennessee and the Pantex Plant.

But just last week, the Government Accountability Office recommended the NNSA reopen the contract and seek more information from bidders.

A spokesman for the agency says they have decided to follow the recommendation.

Bidders will receive requests for additional information in the next few weeks.
