Increased wildfire danger this weekend

Extreme wildfire conditions have prompted the state government to deploy resources to west Texas.

MIDLAND, Texas — Dry air, strong winds and dead vegetation are expected to make this weekend and early next week ideal for wildfires.

Humidity values could fall between 3-6%, which makes it incredibly easy for wildfires to spark.

Strong winds with gusts of up to 50 mph, combined with plenty of dry fuel, means that anything that ignites will spread quickly.

A Red Flag Warning is set to go into effect for the entire Permian Basin on Friday to discourage outdoor burning and promote fire safety.

Additionally, Governor Greg Abbott has sent orders to deploy fire fighting resources across west Texas as a preventative measure. This includes 50 firefighters, 15 fire engines and 7 fire fighting planes to prevent and control any fires that do spark over the coming days.
