TEXAS (KWES) - DPS and state troopers are reminding those traveling for Thanksgiving to stay safe on the roads.

Troopers will be out in full force to ensure that everyone stays safe and alert. Last year during Thanksgiving troopers issued more than 73,000 tickets, including over 300 DWI arrests.

According to AAA, over four million Texans will be traveling 50 miles or more from their homes this week. Drivers should be reminded that everyone in the car must have a seat belt on.

Officers also says those who are traveling should pack an emergency bag in their car in case you get stranded. The bag should include a flashlight, a blanket and a phone charger.
