Man in wheelchair struck, killed while crossing the street

Midland police say the man was not using a crosswalk.

MIDLAND, Texas — Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed while trying to cross the street.

MPD and fire crews responded to the 700 block of E. Florida Street around 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Upon arrival, officers found a man that had been struck by an SUV. The man had been traveling northbound, crossing Florida Street in a wheelchair. He was not at a crosswalk.

The driver of the SUV was traveling westbound in the outside lane of Florida St.

The man was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

MPD says the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. No charges are pending at this time.

Next of kin has not been notified so the man's identity has not been released.
