ODESSA, Texas — Odessa police are investigating a deadly crash on I-20 between Grant and Grandview.

East and westbound lanes of the highway were shut down while crews investigate.

OPD reports a white Jaguar was traveling in the westbound lanes of I-20 following a black Dodge truck. An 18-wheeler was also driving west on I-20.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Ranjit Singh, 42, failed to control his speed and struck the back of the Jaguar, causing the Jaguar to strike the Dodge truck.

The passenger of the Jaguar was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Amber Sahagun, 39, of Decatur, Texas.

The driver of the Jaguar was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In April Odessa police charged Singh with manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators determined Singh had been driving for over 16 hours without proper rest. This is considered a violation of the Federal Hours of Service Regulation.

OPD obtained warrants for Singh, who was located in California and arrested by the United States Marshals Service.

No other injuries have been reported and OPD continues to investigate.
